Best Practices in mobile Content and social entrepreneurship from Africa

The African Content Award promotes and recognizes creativity in Africa and is to encourage collaboration among African countries. Out of all African submissions for the global WSA, an international jury will select the best African projects in each of the 8 WSA categories. In order to find out real success stories and innovative solutions we work with WSA representatives in 41 African countries.

Over the past decade Broadband connectivity has greatly increased across Africa catching up with global ICT trends that are now largely driven by innovation – propelled by high-speed Internet and advancing mobile technology.
Mobile technologies changed the business conditions and ways of living in Africa and offer new chances.

In the latest global contest WSA received excellent innovations from African countries, produced in Africa by Africans for Africans.

The idea of the African Content Award is to promote and recognize creativity in the region and to encourage collaboration among African countries. Out of all African submissions for the global WSA, an international jury selected the best African projects in each of the 8 WSA categories. In order to find out real success stories and innovative solutions we work with WSA representatives in 41 African countries.

The objective is to find out best practices in mobile content that have an impact on society and serve local communities.

The regional winners have been awarded during the 2nd Ministerial Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation in Africa, organized by the African Development Bank, Morocco, Rabat, held at the Academy of Science and Technology Hassan II from October 14-17, 2014.
The forum brought together government representatives, private sector, academia, scientists, innovators, and civil society from the region.

To showcase also the powerful innovations of young social entrepreneurs, the best African products from the World Summit Youth Award  have also been awarded as African Content Award winners.
 

The African Content Award aims to

  • Strengthen the network of developers and entrepreneurs in the region
  •  Enable knowledge exchange among all stakeholders
     
  •  Encourage regional producers by awarding their outstanding achievements
     
  •  Use the mechanism of multi-stakeholder award to find out local best-practices with regional relevance
     
  • Enrich the 2nd Ministerial Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation in Africa with best practices in the creative use of ICTs for a more  inclusive knowledge society
