U-report | UGANDA

U-report is a cost free SMS based system that gives Ugandans the chance to voice their opinions on issues that they care about. Every week an SMS poll or alert is sent to all U-reporters soliciting opinions on a given issue, such as information about free vaccinations, or asking if plants in different regions are infected with bacteria. Responses are immediately analysed in real time by the U-report data platform. U-report has multiple uses, such as raising awareness about certain issues, promoting community-led development and information sharing, as well as advocating at a national level. Each month U-report results are publicised in national media channels and in parliament to ensure decision makers have access to information regarding their districts or ministries. In 2013, there were already 250,000 U-reporters with an average age of 24 and becoming more numerous every day.
